More work on Kitties in Spring

Here is the Mosaic Salon entry. It's coming along. My brother asked what the red bow ties were. Hmmmm....

And this is the vin d'italia mosaic I sold to a very nice young man as a Christmas gift for his mother. Here it is hanging on her fence.

Tequila Bottle Grouted

The tequila bottle & blue agave mosaic has been grouted in a combination of mocha and haystack. I didn't want the grout too dark or too light (oh the woes of grouting). I think I like it. All the stained glass shows up well.

And Prancer Dancer has a lot to say about it too.

Rainy Day Mosaics

It was a very rainy day yesterday, so we stayed in the house and worked on mosaics. The cats slept a lot.

Here is the blue agave mosaic with the fused tequila bottle. I used some black sparkly Van Gogh glass for the border. Obviously I took this picture indoors so you can't really see how cool the Agave leaves look. Today the sun is rising so I'll take another picture.

And here are the double-decker sleepy boys. Prancer is below on their fancy tree-shaped cat tree. You can just see the long shape of Biscotti up on top of the room divider. There are fluorescent lights up there so it is warm.

Cold Windy Day

It's a cold, windy day, and the kitties played inside more than usual. Here they are on their scratching post. Prancer Dancer is on top and Biscotti is on the bottom.

I spent most of the day working on mosaics, doing cleanup work like painting substrates, drilling holes for D-rings, patching some holes that were in the wrong place, etc. The blue and orange sunburst has been completely glued, but I'm not pleased with one of the branches of the sun. So tomorrow I'll pull out the offending pieces and try to make it more to my liking. I also see a couple potential grout rivers so I will probably fix them also.

And I worked a little on the Tequila bottle that I'm making into a Christmas-themed mosaic. I'm using Lexel to glue the pieces on as it will dry clear. I will grout it also.

That's it for today. Glad you stopped by!

Oh, and today is my brother's 70th birthday! Happy birthday, big brother!

Bottles and Mirrors and a Cat

So the holidays are coming and I decided to mosaic one or two bottles. The one on the right is one I made a while back and I can't bear to part with it. I have it sitting on my patio table and the sun shines on it and makes it glisten. The bottle on the left will be in holiday colors. It's a bottle from a fine tequila I finished  recently. I have another bottle from a different tequila maker ready to cover when I finish with this one.

And here is the English Transferware mirror. I'm quite happy with it. I was going to cut out one of the plates' centers for the middle but my ring saw still won't cooperate so I decided to put a mirror in the middle instead. The mirror is still in plastic as I need to pop out some of the green plate pieces and put in the proper size to accommodate the mirror. This is a large piece - 24" in diameter.

And since it's been a while since I posted a kitty picture, here is the darling Biscotti keeping me company at my computer.

Ready to Grout

Stained Glass Bottle

Today I have a few items to grout. The first is a fancy-shaped bottle I found at a thrift store. The second is a small wooden lazy susan I found at a thrift store. The third is the stained glass piece I started at Tami Macala's Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art workshop last year. I started it but had another piece I was working on and so I did that one instead. This has been sitting around, and I finally decided to start using up some of the many, many substrates I have ready to mosaic.

So today I'll grout them all. The weather is overcast right now so it's a good time to get outside and get busy. I'll post finished pictures later!
